Eyelid Surgery in Napa & Vacaville, CA
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Matthew Zeiderman performs upper and lower eyelid surgery to improve hooded lids, under-eye bags, and a persistently tired appearance while preserving your natural eye shape.
Brighter, more rested eyes without changing their character
Eyelid surgery, medically called blepharoplasty, removes or repositions excess skin and fat around the upper or lower eyelids. Upper blepharoplasty treats hooding and heaviness above the eyes, while lower blepharoplasty improves bags and puffiness beneath them.
Because small changes around the eyes can affect the entire face, Dr. Zeiderman uses a measured approach designed to refresh the eye area without creating a hollow, surprised, or overcorrected appearance.
What does eyelid surgery correct?
Upper eyelid surgery can correct excess skin that folds over the natural crease, creates a heavy appearance, interferes with makeup, or in some patients obstructs peripheral vision. Lower eyelid surgery can improve bulging fat pads, persistent under-eye bags, and selected areas of loose skin.
Dr. Zeiderman removes or repositions only the tissue needed to achieve the intended correction. Upper incisions are generally placed within the natural eyelid crease. Lower eyelid surgery may use an incision inside the lid or just beneath the eyelashes, depending on the tissues being treated.
Who is a good candidate for eyelid surgery?
A good candidate is generally a healthy adult bothered by upper-lid hooding, lower-lid bags, or an eye area that looks tired despite adequate rest. There is no single ideal age; inherited eyelid anatomy can cause these concerns earlier. Dr. Zeiderman evaluates the eyelids, brow position, eye health, and surrounding facial structure before recommending surgery.

What happens during the eyelid surgery process?
Consultation and surgical plan
Dr. Zeiderman evaluates your upper lids, lower lids, brow position, eye health, and surrounding facial anatomy to identify what is causing the concern.
Upper or lower blepharoplasty
Surgery may be performed using local anesthesia with sedation or another appropriate form of anesthesia. Incision placement depends on whether the upper lids, lower lids, or both are treated.
Follow-up and recovery
You receive instructions for eye care, activity, head elevation, and cold compresses, followed by scheduled visits as bruising and swelling resolve.
How long does eyelid surgery recovery take?
Many patients return to desk work and social activities within 7 to 10 days, although bruising and swelling vary. The eyelids continue to refine over several weeks, and incision lines gradually mature and fade.

Eyelid surgery FAQ
Eyelid surgery is generally designed to preserve your natural eye shape while reducing hooding, bags, or puffiness. The plan should be conservative enough to avoid a hollow or overcorrected appearance while still producing a visible improvement.
Upper blepharoplasty removes excess skin and selected fat that create hooded or heavy upper lids. Lower blepharoplasty treats under-eye bags, bulging fat, and selected loose skin. The procedures can be performed separately or together.
Upper blepharoplasty incisions are usually placed within the natural eyelid crease. Lower blepharoplasty may use an incision inside the lower lid or directly beneath the eyelashes. Scar location depends on the tissues that need treatment.
Upper eyelid surgery may improve peripheral vision when excess skin physically obstructs the visual field. Dr. Zeiderman can evaluate whether your concern appears functional, cosmetic, or both; formal visual-field testing may also be required.
Many patients plan 7 to 10 days away from work and social events after blepharoplasty. Bruising and swelling vary, and strenuous activity is usually restricted for several weeks before gradually resuming with surgical clearance.
