Facelift in Napa & Vacaville, CA
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Matthew Zeiderman performs facelift surgery to improve sagging cheeks, jowls, jawline definition, and loose neck skin while preserving the features that make you look like yourself.
Natural facial rejuvenation that still looks like you
A facelift, medically called a rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that lifts and repositions descended facial tissues to improve visible aging in the cheeks, lower face, jawline, and often the neck. At Zeiderman Plastic Surgery, Dr. Zeiderman creates an individualized plan based on your anatomy, degree of aging, and goals—not a one-size-fits-all look.
The goal is a rested, refreshed appearance with smoother facial contours and better jawline definition, without the tight or overcorrected appearance many patients want to avoid.
What does a facelift correct?
A facelift primarily corrects sagging in the cheeks and lower face, jowls, loss of jawline definition, and loose skin around the face and neck. It does not directly treat eyelid aging, forehead position, skin texture, or fine surface wrinkles, although separate procedures may address those concerns.
Facial aging affects more than the skin. The deeper support layer, commonly called the SMAS, also descends over time. Dr. Zeiderman repositions and secures the deeper tissues before redraping the skin without excessive tension. This approach is designed to create natural contours and a result that ages gracefully.
Who is a good candidate for facelift surgery?
A good facelift candidate is generally a healthy adult with lower-face or neck sagging that cannot be adequately improved with nonsurgical treatments. Age alone does not determine candidacy; skin quality, facial anatomy, health, and the changes you want to address matter more.
Refinement, not transformation
Dr. Zeiderman plans each facelift around the patient’s bone structure, soft tissues, skin quality, and priorities. He personally guides your care from consultation through recovery, with an emphasis on precise technique and natural, balanced results.
What happens during the facelift process?
Consultation and surgical plan
Dr. Zeiderman evaluates your cheeks, jawline, neck, skin quality, and facial proportions; discusses your goals; and explains whether facelift surgery or another approach is most appropriate.
Facelift surgery
The procedure is performed under anesthesia at an accredited surgical facility. Incisions are placed around the hairline and ears, and the deeper tissues are repositioned before the skin is redraped.
Follow-up and recovery
You receive detailed aftercare instructions and scheduled follow-up visits as bruising and swelling improve. Dr. Zeiderman monitors your healing and clears each return to activity.
How long does facelift recovery take?
Most patients plan approximately two weeks away from work and social events, although recovery varies by procedure and individual healing. Swelling continues to improve for several weeks, and the result becomes more refined over the following months.

Facelift surgery FAQ
Facelift results commonly last about 10 years, although longevity varies with age, skin quality, genetics, sun exposure, smoking, and the surgical technique used. A facelift does not stop aging, but most patients continue to look younger than they would have without surgery.
A facelift primarily improves the cheeks, jowls, and jawline, while a neck lift treats loose neck skin, neck bands, and contour beneath the chin. Because facial and neck aging frequently occur together, the procedures are often combined for a balanced result.
Facelift incisions are typically placed in the hairline and around the natural contours of the ear. Their exact location depends on the surgical plan. Scars are designed to be discreet and usually become less noticeable as they mature.
Most facelift patients plan about two weeks away from work and social events. Bruising and swelling vary, and some patients need additional time. Strenuous exercise is commonly restricted for four to six weeks and resumed only after surgical clearance.
Yes. A facelift may be combined with a neck lift, eyelid surgery, brow lift, or selected skin treatments when multiple areas contribute to facial aging. Dr. Zeiderman recommends only the procedures needed to create a balanced result and a recovery plan appropriate for your health.
